All round it possesses strong academics, a high standard of cultural activities (dramatic society, debating, public speaking, chess, pipe band) and a very high standard of sporting activities in more than ten different sporting codes to cater for the whole school population.

The 285 boarders at King Edward VII School are accommodated in three boarding houses: School House for boys in Gr 8, Donald Gordon House for boys in Gr 8 – Gr 12 and Buxton House for boys in Gr 9 - Gr 12. The applications for boarding invariably far exceed the places available and the most suitable candidates are interviewed to assess their suitability for boarding.
