Situated on the banks of the Eerste River, with the Stellenbosch mountain as a picturesque backdrop, lies the spread-out campus of the Paul Roos Gymnasium, a boys' school with a tradition of excellence in all spheres of education.
Founded in 1866, this school is only a step away from the University of Stellenbosch and a variety of amenities, from sport to internet facilities, is shared with this institution. In addition some subjects are offered in conjunction with our two sister schools, Bloemhof and Rhenish.
Prima and Prima Nova, the two boarding houses, supply accommodation to 226 pupils from across South Africa and neighbouring countries.
Paul Roos Gymnasium succeeds in preparing its pupils to take their place in the world of study, recreation and work. In the 39 years of the existence of the Chancellor's medal of the Universitity of Stellenbosch, 9 (23%) Paul Roosers have gained this prestigious award. Together with Diocesan College (Bishops) the school has produced the highest number of Springbok rugby players - 43. Thousands of past pupils in leadership positions in the academic field and in business bear witness to the formative influence of:
- the tranquillity and safety of one of the most beautiful towns in South Africa
- the stimulation and energy of a large number of young persons, and
- the many opportunities to participate in almost any activity, academically or otherwise
