I find the comments from Ms Sibanda extremely alarming. Especially seeing that my child has been at this school since she was four and both of us are very happy. I need to state upfront that we're both African, as Ms Sibanda is implying that it is not possible for 'our kind' to be happy at this school. My daughter has progressed very well, not only personally and academically- but spiritually too. There's a library, art room, computer lab and other facilities. Activities range from art clubs to Karate classes. The girls have to do IsiZulu in the primary and intermediate phases and can opt to do either French and/or IsiZulu in High School. The cans of food that girls bring to school are for needy children. In addition, there is no 'racism' at the school. The school has been around for over 80 years, it has a great academic track record and if it was so terrible- South Africa's very vocal communities would have ensured that it did not survive that long. Over and above that, many of us as African parents would not be prepared to pay those very high fees just to subject our little ones to racism and disrespect. I think that everyone is entitled to their opinion but it is critical for one to base their comments on facts- which is not the case in what Ms Sibanda's review. This is rather unfortunate.
